Growfood is a St. Petersburg service that recently came to Moscow and which I was told about by chance, in comments on Facebook. I was immediately interested! Five meals a day for 4200 for five weekdays? I like it! Actually, my immersion into the world of such services began with Growfood.

True, I didn’t initially take into account that it was aimed at athletes (so what if it’s written in big letters on the main page, and on the packaging - jocks -)) - and because of this, more than once my expectations did not coincide with reality. For example, there are only two programs - Power for those who are gaining weight (and need to eat A LOT), and Fit - who, on the contrary, are “cutting”. Choosing between them left me stumped. I wanted 1800-2000 kcal - but there was no such option. I consulted with the service itself on Facebook - and for the first time I ordered the option not of five Power meals a day, but of three meals a day - according to the representative, it was exactly the 1800-2000 that I needed.

However, there was a fakap - it turned out that three meals a day included... three lunches! No breakfast, no dinner - three lunches, guys! -) Natural “buckwheat + chicken” lunch. I couldn’t imagine that someone might need three lunches a day - but I’m just not a jock -) It turned out that the concept assumes that if you’re a jock, you have breakfast and dinner at home, and take these three meals with with me to work so that I can eat buckwheat and chicken there by the hour -))).

In general, in the middle of the first week, I switched to Power meals five times a day, deciding that, after all, I could give the extra food to my husband. How right I was! -)) In the end, this five meals a day was enough for us for two (taking into account that he has lunch at work). I was amazed by the sheer amount of side dish. Honestly, it never even occurred to me that you could eat such a pot of buckwheat or pasta in one sitting! We shared it between two (although my husband is also a muscleman).

At some point, we realized that we did not have time to throw away this half-eaten food, despite the fact that I only ordered it on weekdays. But I was already hooked on the convenience of “all the food is ready and with you” and decided to change the approach: I switched to the Fit menu, thinking that it would not be so difficult to “fill up” the missing calories with something from the refrigerator.

In total, I ordered Growfood for about two months. Because it’s really VERY convenient - you don’t even have to think about bread, you don’t need it. I was just going through a difficult nervous period and the opportunity to take something ready-made from the refrigerator and simply heat it up really brightened my life. I praised the service to all my friends and they started ordering it too.

However, in the end I was so tired of Growfood that I simply have no words. Firstly, they have practically no vegetables on the menu - I cut salads for lunch and dinner myself (because how can you live without fiber? Where is the balance?-). Secondly, you essentially have no snacks - you have breakfast, three lunches and dinner - even on the Fit version. I quickly realized that I did not perceive, for example, meatballs with fusilli as a snack. Thirdly, the food tastes dry and unsaturated. If you're going to have a steamed chicken breast today, don't expect it to be cut up and simmered in something flavorful. At most, it will not have a particularly expressive sauce on its own. Fourthly, breakfasts. All the pleasure from breakfast was gone, because about 80% of them were something sweet: carrot cake, pancakes, cheesecakes... It sounds attractive - but, as it turned out, the combination of different tastes is important to me: both salty and sweet. There was something completely sweet here. But it’s also pseudo-sweet. Because fifthly, all the sweetness in Growfood comes from sweeteners. And if I can somehow forgive everything else, then this kills the taste so much - as if you were chewing cardboard, honestly, and not pancakes.

Before sitting down to write this article, I tried Growfood again, as representatives promised that the menu had changed. There really are changes: there are now options for salads or vegetable appetizers (tomatoes with mozzarella, Pan-Asian salad), cream soups have appeared (quite edible), breakfast has always become double (omelet + something sweet). But so far this hasn’t changed my general mood: unfortunately, it’s not very tasty. Plus, the packaging has changed, not for the better: now the film is “welded” to the container on top and you can’t tear it off with your hands, just cut it with a knife (does everyone in office kitchens have a normal knife?), and sauces for dishes are in a separate container and they are not labeled in any way (signatures are generally their weak point; if you throw away the printed menu, you may not be able to guess what’s inside).

However, I talked with a representative of the service and they say that they came up with Growfood to help jocks, who really don’t care so much about taste, but it is important to gain KBJU in a day - and without unnecessary headaches. And when the guys went to Moscow, they realized that they were being ordered here because of something else: people like me, who work a lot and just don’t want to cook. And what is important to us is not the KBZHU, but the taste, aroma, and a more varied menu. With their low price, they have done well in a new segment for which they were not quite ready. They promise to reformat in the near future. I'm waiting - I'll definitely give them a chance, after everything that happened between us -).

Eat&Train

What it is: five balanced meals a day delivered with a focus on athletes.

Types of programs: six types with different calorie content (1400, 1700, 2000, 2300, 2500, 3000 kcal).

Price: from 1000 rub. in a day. My option: 1100 rub. per day for 1700 kcal. (5500 rubles for five days).

I also found this service by accident, on someone’s advice (it was only later that I discovered that these services were growing like mushrooms - there really were a lot of them). Taught by experience, I looked carefully at the menu. I was somewhat intimidated by the delivery every evening (I have training and a swimming pool). But the experiment “I’d rather eat sausages and pasta than Growfood” quickly failed, since I have problems with the gastrointestinal tract and it does not forgive this. So I went and ordered.

From Eat&Train you immediately get the feeling that this is still a better service (although the difference in price is not so significant). The list of dishes for the day is printed with tips on what to eat and when. There are vegetables! The menu is not so monotonous - here the chef is aware that there is food in the world other than buckwheat and chicken -) There is no feeling that all the dishes are somehow dry - because they are quite normal, in sauces or gravies. And even if there are sweeteners in the composition, they don’t feel that way. Breakfasts are more varied (oh, muesli with fermented baked milk, you are a thing!). Fruit is often offered for lunch. And one of the three main meals is light.

Taking into account my past experience, Eat&Train delighted me, and I carried this food in a canvas bag literally throughout the city and all my business (it’s very funny when at the beginning of the day all the food hangs on your shoulder, and in the evening it moves inside you -) ). I even ate my food in the back room of our fitness club, where the trainer let me warm it up.

However, I realized that any ready-made food, even if there are no special questions about its taste, gets boring. By the end of the second week on Eat&Train, I started craving the damned chips. And this pasta with cheese, which my husband greedily ate while I stuck to my cod ceviche! By the end of the third, I realized that an internal rebellion had matured in me “give me pizza, give me pasta, give me bread” - against the ready-made menu, invented by someone who hardly took into account what I wanted exactly today. It's like eating in a restaurant where they don't ask you what you order -).

On the other hand, five meals a day, balanced according to the KBJU, had a very, well, very good effect on both my general well-being and my sore stomach. In January, I once again took all the tests from a gastroenterologist - and, in my opinion, they have never been so wonderful! At least, I don't remember them like that.

For myself, I decided that I would simply order Eat&Train not constantly, every week, but would take breaks when I felt like I was getting bored. And I’ll look for some other similar service so that the menu is still varied.

Performance Food

What is it: healthy balanced meals delivered. Targeting both athletes and those losing weight, vegetarians, and people with diseases.

Types of programs: several dozen, divided by type (weight loss, sports nutrition, balanced nutrition, nutrition for illnesses, Dukan diet, etc.). Including individual ones, which are developed for you.

This service came to me with an offer to try them. Could I resist when ready-made food is offered just like that? -)) It was immediately clear to me that this option was more expensive than I could afford myself, but it was interesting to compare them with their competitors (plus, I once had a similar-priced service - and I didn’t like it, so the price is not here determines everything).

Here a nutritionist calls you in advance to help you choose a program. Judging by the voice, it was a young girl. Which, it seemed to me, was just sitting in some online program, entering my answers into it. I was asked about my current weight, activity and my goal (“mmm... it would be nice to lose a little weight... although no, don’t, just give me 2000 kcal!”). “If you want to lose weight, our 1200 kcal program is for you!” — she cheerfully gave the result. “What another 1200 kcal! This is my basic metabolism - and I also swim, go to the gym and think a lot with my big head,” I thought to myself. She asked out loud to give me my 2000 kcal per day, on which I have proven to feel good.

This conversation was the only, in my opinion, fakap from this service. Because everything else was just VERY GOOD. A very polite and intelligent courier brought food in thermal bags, which we had to give back to him next time. There were not five meals - but all ten, because Performance Food believes that lunch is first, second and third. And here's a snack for you. Here's a separate compote for breakfast. I was tired even of putting all the food in the refrigerator -) The festival of the stomach was soups (uhhh, I want more), all the salads, mousses. And breakfasts! What breakfasts are there! Buckwheat porridge with milk and walnuts (the last time I ate buckwheat with milk was when I was a child). Millet porridge with pumpkin. The most delicious muesli of my life. Why, even banal slices of red apples for a snack are served here with some kind of delicious sauce that you already feel like you’re in a restaurant, although these are just chopped apple slices. I opened each container in anticipation of the next delicious surprise and, it seems, I was never disappointed! Festival of the stomach, rialli. In comparison with Eat&Train, it’s like getting into a restaurant with a Michelin star after eating good fast food. Both there and there are delicious, but very differently -))).

The body, however, still rebelled and asked for some “carbohydrate” food such as buns and chips. She consoled him with toasted toast to go with some salad - and she calmed down.

Honestly, I would love to continue on Performance Food. Their menu is very extensive and is repeated much less frequently than those of Growfood and Eat&Train - and this seems to be the key to both increasing prices, but also to success in my case (for example, I may not finish some dish, even if hungry - simply because I'm tired of its specific taste). The cooking is divine.

But the price, unfortunately, is beyond my capabilities (their top level is just Eat&Train). However, no one bothers you to please yourself at least sometimes. Well, as usual, we will strive to #earnmore -). And if you already do, I highly recommend trying them.

From all this bacchanalia with five meals a day, I came to some interesting conclusions about nutrition:

  • Still It’s very difficult for an unsystematic person like me to think through five meals a day for a week. independently - so that it doesn’t get boring to the point of “it won’t get into your throat.” I'm not sure I'll ever cope with this myself. I admire those who are capable of this!
  • These services are not a panacea for losing weight. if you don't have willpower: I haven't lost an ounce. Because in this world, unfortunately, there is too much affordable food -)). But from the constant supply of food to the body, at its slightest request, metabolism accelerates.
  • I need and value different tastes and textures in food.- so that it is salty, and sweet, and bitter, and sour, and starchy, and fatty, and crunchy. When tastes are limited, I get sad and start wanting chips -).

  • When you always have healthy food options at hand, you stop craving unhealthy foods. I realized that I eat chips, sausage sandwiches, chocolates, curd rings and other nasty things not because I specifically want chocolate right now (thanks to this six-month experiment, it turned out that I don’t like it at all! It’s pure fat!). But simply because there is nothing else at hand right now - and the body wants calories. The brain needs glucose to keep going! And I know that fast carbohydrates satisfy his desire instantly - but then I will feel so-so. And when you have a choice - for example, bean salad with corn or a cookie? I choose salad -). But I’m not going to make this salad myself. It is important to ensure diversity up front in any way possible (this is what we were taught at Sekta, but it never took root in me).

  • When you switch to five meals a day, you find that you are essentially chewing something all the time! And it turns out that it’s normal to eat almost every two hours. The body, when it understands that food will be on demand every time, demands and demands -).

Minuses: If you are allergic to specific ingredients, you will not be able to adjust the menu - the service, unfortunately, cannot boast of an individual approach.
