31st Ulyanovsk brigade. A new commander was introduced in the Ulyanovsk airborne brigade. Participation in hostilities

I accidentally came across the verdict of one of the militants who participated on November 17, 1999 in a battle with a reconnaissance group of the 91st battalion of the 31st air assault brigade near Kharachoy. Judging by press publications, the details of the clash were previously presented somewhat incorrectly.

November 29, 1999:

*****
On that day, November 16, 1999, two officers went on a mission; in addition to Igoshin, the group also included an artillery gunner, Lieutenant Andrei Ladung, three sergeants and nine privates - the standard complement of a short-range reconnaissance detachment. The paratroopers' task was simple and uncomplicated - to carry out a hidden raid along the Chechen border along the Tando-Kharagoi-Vedeno line. Business is only for a couple of days. Therefore, the scouts had ordinary small arms, one “back” (ammunition), and a “dry ration” for three days. The radio station provided audibility within 10 kilometers - we had no intention of going further into the mountains. Trouble began for the group just a few hours after leaving the base. A thick fog fell on the mountains and snow began to fall. Nevertheless, the scouts went ahead, hoping that visibility would be better at the top, and now the bad weather was in their favor - there was less chance that the militants would notice. It is unclear how the group got off the route. The reconnaissance commander Roma Igoshin took this secret with him forever (his award watch from Vladimir Putin for the storming of Donkey’s Ear was shown on TV). When the snow stopped falling, the paratroopers, without suspecting it themselves, entered Chechnya 5-7 kilometers away. Their last coordinates are known for certain: one and a half kilometers east of the village of Kharagoi. It is only about 15 kilometers from the base in Botlikh - even the connection was not interrupted. The last message from the group was transmitted over the radio station with the commander’s firm confidence that they were still in Dagestan: “We see four militant vehicles, UAZs, breaking into our territory...”. Senior Lieutenant Igoshin decided to attack first and destroy the militants, counting on help if something happened. Just to know... From that moment on, communication with the group was cut off - apparently the radio station was destroyed by a bullet or shrapnel. And now we can only guess about the details of that unequal battle in the mountains. It is a fact that the paratroopers did not surrender without a fight. According to the stories of local residents, the shooting in the gorge did not stop for a long time, and the scouts gave their lives dearly. According to human intelligence data and radio interceptions, the number of dead militants became known - more than 50. (Weren't their bodies later shown on television - the militants also wear army camouflage?)

Excerpts from an article in Kommersant, February 1, 2000:

*****
Captain Nemolyaev, who had not yet gone to the bathhouse, and Captain Kabanov, who had already been washed, classmates and comrades of Roma Igoshin at the military school, told how it really happened.
“You see, here is height 1561,” they showed on the map. - And opposite is Mount Turtle, or height 1473. Between them is Kharachoy, the base of Shirvani Basayev. The reconnaissance group conducted a search along this road. A Ural truck was coming towards them. Ours did it. That's all! The group lit up. Reconnaissance remains reconnaissance until the first shot is fired; what happens after that is called combat. Our people began to retreat, the first wounded and dead appeared. Mobility has correspondingly declined sharply. And then they stopped completely. They shot back to the last. But that was all, the end.
The captains did not condemn their dead comrade for some fucking Ural. They simply told how it all happened. They are professionals. Their friend Roman, for some reason, acted unprofessionally. Perhaps he had no other choice. No one will ever know, and guessing and building versions is for idle journalists, not for officers. They simply drew conclusions for themselves. With his death and the death of his senior fighters, Roman Igoshin seemed to bequeath to them: “Guys, I made a mistake, don’t repeat it.”

Excerpts from an article in Moskovsky Komsomolets, August 1, 2003:

*****
On November 16, a reconnaissance platoon of the Ulyanovsk Airborne Brigade left the Dagestan Botlikh for reconnaissance in the mountains of Chechnya. For his commander, senior lieutenant Roman Igoshin, this was already the fifth such operation in two months. He was only 25. After this assignment, the command promised to let him go on vacation. Two weeks ago his daughter was born...
The group's exploration was generally successful. The paratroopers worked for a day in the very den of the bandits, right under their noses, and did without firing a single shot. On the morning of November 17, they decided to leave: the information necessary for the federal troops had been collected.
The scouts had already jumped over the pass, from which the location of their native unit was just a stone's throw away. Suddenly snow began to fall in thick flakes. And then, through the white veil, one of the soldiers saw KamAZ trucks ahead. As it turned out later, they were Arab professionals armed to the teeth. The group was also noticed. They had no choice but to dive behind the nearest ledge, take up a perimeter defense and be the first to open fire. If they had started to retreat, they would have been shot like partridges.
...14 paratroopers did not fight the militants for long. Contact with our friends was cut off almost immediately: a bullet damaged the radio. Suddenly junior sergeant Alexander Sherstnev shouted:
- Commander, there are still people there! We are surrounded!!!
There was no one to answer him: Igoshin was killed at the very beginning of the battle. Indeed, help came to the Chechens - they went to the rear of the scouts. And they fought for some time...
[...] By lunchtime in the mountains near Vedeno everything was quiet. The militants suffered losses, but they managed to take with them 12 corpses of Russian soldiers and two wounded: junior sergeants Alexander Sherstnev and Nikolai Zavarzin.
[...] History does not tolerate the subjunctive mood - especially the history of war. But how the colleagues of the dead paratroopers want to change the events of that day, to give their friends at least a few chances to live, at least a few hypothetical “ifs”! If the connection had not been lost... If the officer had not died at the very beginning of the battle... If it had not been for the snow...
Later, the fighters of the Ulyanovsk brigade will say that most likely they were already waiting for the scouts beyond the pass. Apparently, the bandits spotted them and organized an ambush: that path was the only way for the platoon to return.

Testimony of Alexander Sherstnev:
(The full name number in the process of mentioning surnames is entered each time a new one, so the same person can appear under different numbers. The identification process was facilitated by the nature of the injuries and the fact that only two servicemen survived. - approx.)
*****
Early in the morning DD.MM.YYYY an order was received to conduct reconnaissance and protect a section of the road near the village<адрес>, connecting this locality with another - FULL NAME3. Full name 62 was included in the reconnaissance group, and he (full name 63) commanded their reconnaissance group. There were fourteen people in total. At approximately 10 o'clock DD.MM.YYYY their reconnaissance group reached the road that led along the gorge to<адрес>. From the side of this village and from the hills, their group came under crossfire from machine guns and grenade launchers. This happened at the moment when they stopped a UAZ car to check documents. They instantly dispersed and, hiding behind the boulders, returned fire at the attacking militants. Judging by the number of firing points from which fire was fired at them, there were at least fifteen to twenty militants. During the battle FULL NAME64 (To Zavarzin - approx.) a grenade explosion damaged his fingers, and he received bullet wounds to his right forearm and thigh of his right leg. Because of the pain, he lost consciousness for some time, and when he woke up, he saw that the militants who had shot at them were already nearby. Their faces were open, they were all dressed in camouflage uniforms and unloading vests, armed with Kalashnikov assault rifles. Some had machine guns with underbarrel grenade launchers. He remembered one of the attackers well, because later, when he was already in captivity, he saw him and communicated with him. He was approximately 18-20 years old, approximately 170 cm tall, of an athletic build, he was wearing a dark-colored knitted cap, an oval face, large eyes, a straight, large nose, thick, black eyebrows, a short thick mustache and a black beard. He had a Kalashnikov assault rifle and was wearing camouflage clothing and a vest. All pockets in the unloading vest were filled with at least 8 spare magazines for the machine gun. After he woke up, the militant stood a few meters away from him and fired aimed shots in short bursts at the military personnel, many of whom were already wounded or killed. Seeing that he was wounded but could not hold a weapon, the gunman did not shoot at him. Two other militants, who were nearby, used shots from their Kalashnikov assault rifles to finish off the wounded lying a few meters away from him, FULL NAME65. The militants kicked him several times, after which, together with FULL NAME66 (Zavarzin - approx.) placed in the luggage compartment of a UAZ car and brought to<адрес>. At the local hospital, their wounds were bandaged. The doctor amputated the damaged fingers on Zavarzin’s hand, and then they were placed in a cell at the local police station. They were held captive by the militants for 3 months, after which they were exchanged for FULL NAME4 of the militants.

Testimony of Nikolai Zavarzin:

*****
According to the testimony of the victim, Full Name 24, who was interrogated using a video conferencing system, DD.MM.YYYY, he is part of one of the three reconnaissance groups of the 31st Airborne Brigade, stationed on the border of the Republic<адрес>, which consisted of fourteen people, moved towards the settlement<адрес>Chechen Republic. We walked all day. When we approached the outskirts<адрес>, fog fell and therefore it was decided to spend the night in the mountains. In the morning DD.MM.YYYY they went down into the gorge and continued moving. The area was rocky and there was a small stream flowing there. Ahead of their group, at a distance of about 300 meters, were two patrolmen - a sniper and a machine gunner. At some point, a UAZ vehicle passed to the left of the group, approximately 500 meters away. As she approached the patrol, shots rang out. It was the patrolmen who were shot. On the commander's orders, they opened fire on the car. As a result of two retaliatory shots from a grenade launcher, half of the reconnaissance group was killed. Then shots were heard again, followed by an explosion. He suffered shrapnel wounds to his head and arm. He could not fire and lay on his back with his face bloodied and stained with earth. When there was a lull, the bandits approached. He heard FULL NAME75 (Sherstnev? - approx.) shouted not to shoot at him, saw how a militant approached him and told him to roll away from the machine gun. Then the same militant approached him (FULL NAME77) and pointed a machine gun. He decided to pretend to be dead. At this time, a mortally wounded comrade lying next to him, whose lungs and throat were punctured, wheezed. The militant shot at him. From the shot he (FULL NAME78) (Zavarzin - approx.) jerked and opened his eyes. The militant asked him: “Are you alive?” and, having received an affirmative answer, also ordered him to roll away from the machine gun that was nearby. He crawled away and sat down. Three or four more militants approached. His and full name99 (Sherstneva - approx.) they put them in an UAZ, threw weapons and equipment on them and took them to<адрес>. There they were given medical assistance and put in the basement of a building similar to the Ministry of Internal Affairs. About two and a half months later he was exchanged for a militant.

Testimony of one of the militants:

*****
Meanwhile, of those examined at the court hearing on the basis of Part 3 of Art. 281 of the Code of Criminal Procedure of the Russian Federation, at the request of the state prosecutor, the testimony FULL NAME37, given by him at the stage of the preliminary investigation, it follows that the defendant FULL NAME5 told him that he, in a group of militants, took part in a battle with paratroopers. According to FULL NAME47, when they were driving a UAZ car, they noticed scouts, stopped, jumped out and began to fire at them. One of their group members had a grenade launcher, the rest had Kalashnikov assault rifles. The defendant also told him that he had quarreled with a militant FULL NAME95 over a machine gun: he wanted to take one of the machine guns, but he didn’t let him do it, he wanted to execute the wounded man - again he didn’t allow him FULL NAME86. He (FULL NAME37) realized that because of this conflict, defendant FULL NAME47 went to another group for some time. FULL NAME5 told him about all this as a heroic act, they say, they were in the minority able to defeat superior forces, and not just soldiers, but paratroopers, in the year DD.MM.YYYY.
*****

Testimony of another militant:

*****
At the same time, of those announced in accordance with Part 3 of Art. 281 of the Code of Criminal Procedure of the Russian Federation, at the request of the prosecution, the testimony of witness FULL NAME38, given by him at the preliminary investigation, it is clear that approximately in mid-October DD.MM.YYYY, by order of “FULL NAME89” from among the residents of the villages<адрес>and FULL NAME3, two detachments of “volunteers” were created, numbering 20-25 people each, whose commanders were residents of the village FULL NAME3 and FULL NAME90. All squad members were given uniforms, unloading vests and weapons, mainly 5.45mm Kalashnikov assault rifles and 10 magazines loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition each. He was a member of the detachment FULL NAME6. The defendant, FULL NAME5, also joined the same detachment in DD.MM.YYYY. Then he met him (FULL NAME47). Their duties included guarding the access roads to the village of Vedeno, including the road leading to this village from the settlement<адрес>One day in mid-November DD.MM.YYYY, a group of 6-7 people led by FULL NAME6 in a UAZ-luxury car headed towards the village<адрес>to change the patrol that was on its outskirts. Along the way, having noticed in an open area, about 200 meters from the village<адрес>a group of fourteen military personnel, FULL NAME6 ordered his group to disperse and attack them from the available weapons. First, a grenade launcher was fired at the servicemen, then Kalashnikov assault rifles were used. As a result, twelve soldiers were killed and two were captured. FULL NAME4 brought to<адрес>where they received medical care. He personally did not participate in that attack.
*****

According to expert opinions, the death of the military personnel occurred for the following reasons:
- five had blast injury,
- four had multiple bullet wounds (including one who was finished off with a shot to the head),
- two of them had one bullet (to the head; to the chest),
- one had an explosive injury and one bullet to the head (they finished him off).
Both survivors had bullet wounds.

If you add up the readings, you get the following. 6-7 militants from local residents, not “professional Arabs”, armed with machine guns and one RPG, moved in a passenger car to change posts. On the way, we suddenly came across an advanced patrol of a reconnaissance group of paratroopers (2 people) and immediately shot him. The reconnaissance group, located away from the forward patrol, opened fire on the militants. Apparently, the group was crowded, because the “Czechs” were able to kill five servicemen with one or two shots from an RPG and seriously wound another. The remaining six paratroopers were killed or wounded by small arms fire. The militants apparently suffered no losses at all.
Mistakes, poor preparation...

The SAA continues to attack terrorist positions east of Damascus, Aleppo and Homs . There have been reports on social networks that the 31st separate guards air assault brigade of the Russian Federation has been deployed to Suwayda (southern Syria). These are not Special Operations Forces (SSO), not units serving the Aerospace Forces group in Syria (like the Marines in Latakia). So far, nothing can be said about the composition of the brigade (which battalions).

Syrian Arab Army (SAA) fired at militant positions near the town of Douma in Eastern Ghouta of Damascus , liberated a research center near the Damascus-Baghdad highway from the FSA; took control of the village of Zuluf and territories along the Syrian-Jordanian border in the east of Damascus; occupied the villages of Tell Fida and Al-Mazraat Al-Salisa south of the Al-Jirah airbase; fought with ISIS in the area of the Arak oil field, as well as in the Al-Shumariya mountains northeast of Palmyra, destroyed several vehicles of ISIS terrorists near the Deir ez-Zor airbase; attacked the positions of radicals in the Daraa Al-Balad area; destroyed three IS military pickup trucks east of Salamiyah; carried out airstrikes on positions of ISIS militants in the vicinity of the city of Uqeiribat in Hama.

"Islamic State" (IS): exchanged prisoners with Jaysh Al-Islam; fought with Tahrir al-Sham near the Yarmouk refugee camp in southern Damascus; shelled the neighborhoods of Kharabesh, Al-Jura and Al-Qusur in Deir ez-Zor, and shelled the city of Salamiya in the east of Hama.

Free Syrian Army (FSA) fought with the SAA in the area of the city of Al-Hula in the north-west of Homs, destroyed a SAA military vehicle in the Al-Manshiya quarter in the south of Daraa, and shot down a Syrian Su-24 aircraft in Daraa.

"Jabhat Fatah Al-Sham" shelled Daraa neighborhoods, there were casualties among civilians.

Kurds fought with ISIS near the village of Huneydah east of At-Tabqa, captured the villages of Tal Malla and Salhabiyat Al-Sharqiya near Raqqa; lost six soldiers in an ISIS attack in Raqqa.

International coalition carried out airstrikes on strongholds of ISIS terrorists in the area of the village of Qudairan to the west of Raqqa.

Damascus Province

05/23/2017 (06:00) - FAN. In the south of Damascus, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, an exchange of prisoners took place between militants of the Jaysh Al-Islam group and IS terrorists. After this, fighting resumed between IS and Tahrir Al-Sham Islamists near the Yarmouk refugee camp. This was reported by the Twitter channel (@P_Strickland).

Let us recall that in the southern suburbs of Damascus, detachments of the “Islamic State” and the armed opposition are stationed. However, according to the Al Masdar News news agency, IS terrorists intend to leave the territories they occupy and move to areas under the control of the Islamic State.

Northeast of Damascus in the Eastern Ghouta region, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) fired at militant positions in the area of the city of Douma, where the Jabhat Fatah Al-Sham group operates, which is not covered by the ceasefire.

In the southeast of Damascus, the SAA continued its offensive against the positions of the Free Syrian Army (FSA). During the offensive by government forces, a research center located south of the Zaza intersection on the Damascus-Baghdad highway was liberated.

Also, according to AMN, the Syrian army, with the support of allied pro-government units, took control of the village of Zuluf along with vast territories along the Syrian-Jordanian border, approaching the At-Tanf checkpoint.

Aleppo Province

05/23/2017 (06:00) - FAN. In the eastern part of Aleppo province, a large-scale offensive against the strongholds of the Islamic State terrorists continued. Damascus Now reported that government troops occupied the villages of Tell Fida and Al-Mazraat Al-Salisa, located south of the Al-Jirah military airbase.

The Syrian army plans to soon liberate the city of Maskana, a key IS outpost in Aleppo. At the moment, Bashar al-Assad’s army is operating just 10 km from the city. Maskana has been occupied by IS militants since 2014.

Homs Province

05/23/2017 (06:00) - FAN. The liberated Al-Waer district in the north-east of Homs, from which militants of the armed opposition were completely evacuated, yesterday began to be cleared of barricades and construction waste left by the Islamists. The radicals moved to the city of Jarablus in northern Aleppo. For the first time since 2011, the regional capital is under full control of government forces.

In the east of the province, the Syrian army continued its large-scale offensive against the fortified areas of IS militants. Over the past 24 hours, fighting took place in the area of the Arak oil field, as well as in the Al-Shumariya mountains northeast of Palmyra. The SAA operated with the support of special forces of the 5th Assault Corps, the Tigers, as well as the pro-government Palestinian Liwa Al-Quds forces.

According to Al Masdar News, the Syrian army is preparing an offensive towards the largest ISIS stronghold in the region - the city of Al-Sukhna, which is located on the way to Deir ez-Zor.

In the north-west of the province, clashes were also recorded between SAR troops and militants of the armed opposition - in the area of the city of Al-Hula. This was reported by the opposition portal Aleppo Media Center. Let us remind you that these territories are in the de-escalation zone, in the area of which there is a no-fire regime, however, the radicals do not stop attacking SAA positions, forcing government troops to return fire.

Deir ez-Zor Province

05/23/2017 (06:00) - FAN. Throughout the day, Islamic State terrorists continued to fire at neighborhoods in the administrative center of the province. As a result of an attack by IS militants on the Kharabesh area in Deir ez-Zor, one civilian was killed and 13 were injured. This was reported by the Damascus Now portal. Also, during the shelling of the Al-Jura and Al-Qusur neighborhoods by IS militants, according to the Damascus Now news agency, five people, including two children, were injured.

Government troops returned fire at strongholds of IS radicals near the Deir ez-Zor military air base and in the area of the city cemetery. According to AMN, several vehicles of IS terrorists were destroyed.

Military experts agree that the militants intend to transfer their troops to Deir ez-Zor after the defeat in Mosul and to do this they are trying to drive government units out of the provincial capital as quickly as possible.

Daraa Province

05/23/2017 (06:00) - FAN. Despite the ceasefire, clashes between government troops and “free army” militants continued near the regional capital. According to a military source on Twitter (@Step_Agency), militants destroyed a SAA military vehicle in the Al-Manshiya neighborhood in the south of Daraa. There was also shelling of areas of the city by the anti-government group Jabhat Fatah Al-Sham, as a result of which two women and a child were injured. Bashar al-Assad's army, in turn, fired rockets at radical positions in the Daraa Al-Balad area.

Opposition sources claimed that militants managed to shoot down a Syrian Su-24 military aircraft, but the data was not confirmed. The plane did suffer wing damage but managed to land, a government source said.

Hama Province

05/23/2017 (06:00) - FAN. In the province of Hama, over the course of yesterday, battles unfolded around the key city of Salamiyah, one of the connecting links of the “Road of Life” strategic highway. Islamic State terrorists fired rockets at the city, killing one person and injuring three civilians. Damascus Now later reported that the Syrian Air Force destroyed three IS terrorist vehicles east of Salamiyah.

In the eastern part of the province, Syrian warplanes carried out a series of airstrikes against IS positions in the area of the villages of Sukha and Rasm al-Awabid near the city of Uqairibat, the main IS stronghold in Hama. There were no data on losses in the ranks of the radicals.

Opposition sources also reported artillery shelling by the Syrian army in the area of the settlements of Al-Latamina and Kafr Zeta in the north of the region. This information has not yet received official confirmation. Let us remind you that the territories in the north of Hama are part of one of the security zones, but the Islamists, conducting regular provocative attacks on fortified areas of government troops, force the SAA to launch retaliatory strikes.

31st Separate Guards Air Assault Brigade

31st Separate Guards Air Assault Order of Kutuzov Brigade (31st Airborne Brigade)- a military formation within the Airborne Forces of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. The brigade was created as a result of the reform of the 104th Guards Airborne Division of the Order of Kutuzov in 1998, receiving its final name in 2007.

The 31st Airborne Brigade took part in combat operations on the territory of Chechnya during the Second Chechen War
The combined battalion tactical group of the 31st Airborne Brigade took part in the armed conflict in South Ossetia in August 2008. The brigade is stationed in the city of Ulyanovsk (Polivno village). Since 2005, the brigade has been transferred to a contract recruitment system.

On June 4, 2015, the Russian Ministry of Defense decided to recreate the 104th Guards Air Assault Division of three regiments on the basis of the 31st Airborne Brigade.

IN brigade composition(military unit 73612) includes:
— Management and headquarters of the brigade
- parachute battalion
— 2 air assault battalions

Ulyanovsk conscripts were given the opportunity to look at the equipment, weapons, equipment and life of military personnel directly in the military unit. Together with them, we also walked through the territory of the 31st separate air assault brigade stationed in Ulyanovsk.

On Saturday, a social and patriotic event “Conscript Day” was held in Ulyanovsk. More than three hundred Ulyanovsk conscripts arrived in the 31st air assault brigade. A similar event takes place twice a year. Let us remind you that the spring conscription began on April 1. An information and advisory center is organized for the parents of conscripts with the participation of a military prosecutor, a military commissar, and a representative of the committee of soldiers’ mothers.

After the formation on the parade ground and welcoming words, the event continued with the laying of a basket of flowers at the monument to the paratroopers who died in the line of military duty. Then the guests were divided into groups, and the group leaders took them on a tour of the unit, during which the conscripts were shown the equipment, weapons, equipment and life of the military personnel.

So, what did the conscripts see?

“Let’s go to the first floor,” the words of the group leader sound. “Personnel live here, including contract soldiers.”

Here is a place for cleaning, here is a schedule, then there is a room for storing weapons.

Can we go there? – the conscripts perked up.

No, you can't go there! Only the company duty officer and those who receive weapons have the right to enter there,” answered the senior officer in the group.

There is also a leisure room - with a TV, sofas, books. By the way, the library has a fairly wide range: from Russian romantic novels from the “Classics and Contemporaries” series to “The X-Files”.

“Valera, your time!”

“Weapons love neatness and cleanliness in handling,” - with these words the educational program on military equipment used in the unit began.

By the way, conscripts were immediately warned that photography with all types of weapons had to be prohibited. The fact is that when taking photographs there are inadequate people who, for example, put a weapon to their temple. However, with some types of weapons they were still allowed to take a photo as a souvenir. The conscripts animatedly discussed the features of this or that technique, and when posing for a photo they heard: “Valera, your time!” and “As in “contra!”

But, of course, computer toys are one thing, serving in the Airborne Forces is another. There was a feeling that as the event progressed, the conscripts became more and more imbued with the seriousness of military service. And the brief historical information given in the Room of Battle Glory, located on the territory of the unit, confirms this.

Our brigade was formed during the Great Patriotic War and has extensive combat experience. Military personnel took part in combat operations and military conflicts, including in Afghanistan and the Chechen Republic. Among them are Heroes of the USSR and Russia.

In the Room of Battle Glory you can recognize the brigades and see many interesting exhibits. The equipment of military personnel is also presented here. For example, a raid backpack for carrying out combat missions up to one hundred kilometers, a 12-kilogram body armor, a plastic helmet, which replaced the iron one.

Shown here is the D-6 parachute, on which paratroopers until recently performed jumps (its area is 80 square meters). Now they jump with D-10 parachutes, the area of which is 100 square meters. There is also a unique chair - the exact same one used by Yuri Gagarin who ascended into space. In addition, the Z-5 reserve parachute is presented. During the excursion, details of training and jumping were described, for example, after taking a step “into the abyss,” paratroopers count down the seconds, saying 501, 502, 503, and pull the ring.

If in the Room of Combat Glory there is theory, then further on - at the parachutist training site - there is the most practical practice, where deviation from discipline can cost one’s life.

Airborne complex - at this training site they teach and train parachutists to make parachute jumps from military transport aircraft. On the parachute tower are future parachutists: they have never jumped from an airplane in their lives. These are conscript soldiers, people who decided to start serving under a contract, but served in other troops. Also, military personnel of the unit take classes here every week so as not to lose their qualifications.

The height of the tower, including the lightning rod, is 45 meters; the jump is made from a platform at a height of 30 meters. On the tower, the actions that are necessary for the parachutist immediately before the ground are practiced.

And here they teach how to act in the air, where there are rules. If you don't follow them, don't listen carefully and don't do what is required, everything can end in disaster. As the conscripts were told, airborne training is written in blood, which is why they require maximum attention and precise repetition of actions. If this does not happen, then a person does not get a way to heaven.

This is an imitation of an airplane from which jumps will be made in the future. This is where your jumping skills are honed.

By the way, after the story about the training of paratroopers, the conscripts were asked whether they wanted to serve in the Airborne Forces. Impressed conscripts initially timidly raised their hands, but several firmly “voted” to serve in the airborne forces. However, according to the impressions of many conscripts, this event is useful and interesting.

The last point of the tour of the unit was the dining room. Now in the army the food is prepared by cooks. Traditionally, there is a strict meal schedule, in the lobby there is a menu, a plan for assigning tables to departments and other thematic information.
