• Holostem poppy (Papaver nudicaule) is a perennial plant that blooms from May to late autumn. Depending on the variety, it can be simple or double, white, yellow or orange. A multi-colored mixture in one flowerbed looks especially impressive.
• California poppy, or Eschscholzia californica, is not a poppy as such, but an independent genus in the poppy family, so you can safely plant it in your garden. Eschscholzia is drought-resistant, easily propagated by self-sowing, and its golden and orange flowers will delight you for many years.

1. Buy seeds. Poppies do not tolerate transplanting, so you will need to buy seeds rather than seedlings. Seeds can be purchased at a gardening store or online. Papaver - planting and care

How to grow papaver?

Papaver, or peony poppy, has very small seeds. It is better to sow them by mixing them with sand so that the seedlings do not turn out too dense.

Before sowing, carefully prepare the soil. It should be loose and homogeneous. Sowing works well on sandy soil. A crust may form on the clay soil, and the poppy seeds will not germinate. In this case, they do this: choose a place and pour purchased soil, then level the area. The soil is moistened abundantly and poppy is sown superficially, without covering it with soil. Spray the top with water from a spray bottle. To preserve moisture, the sowing site must be covered with spunbond; you can water directly over it.

When the seedlings appear, they need to be thinned out, leaving 7-10 cm between plants. With dense sowings, the poppy grows frail. The peduncle does not hold the double flower, and it looks down. There will be no peony effect!

Care comes down to weeding and watering. To prolong flowering, faded flowers are immediately removed, preventing seed pods from forming. This simple trick almost doubles your flowering time!

When I saw the packages of seeds with peony poppy (papaver), At first I didn’t immediately believe that it was a poppy. I didn’t think that poppy, it turns out, could be so beautiful! Such beauty has never grown in my flower garden.

So, of course, I bought papaver seeds - I bought 5 packs of several varieties of different colors at once: “Purple” (purple-violet papaver), “Pink Bowl” (rich pink flowers), “Yellow Velvet” (cream-yellow color ), “Salsa” (coral pink, unusual shade), “Salmon Velvet” (salmon pink color).
